A mech that reassembles itself, an energy blade that can lunge and knock enemies back — D.Mon looks like the result of Blizzard tossing D.Va and Reinhardt into the same lab. Even Engadget admitted, "We weren't planning to write another hero update, but D.Mon is just too cool."

D.Mon isn't actually a new face. She first appeared in a 2018 animated short as a member of D.Va's MEKA squad, but it wasn't until a mech silhouette showed up in this year's hero teaser that players confirmed she'd become Overwatch's 53rd playable hero — and its 15th tank. Her mech is codenamed Beast, a detail Blizzard has emphasized.

Gameplay-wise, D.Mon does inherit part of D.Va's genetics: she can't fly, but she can dash sideways using fuel-limited thrusters and deal ranged damage with a machine gun ability. When her mech is destroyed, she ejects and survives, later resummoning the mech via her ultimate — though unlike D.Va's mech dropping from the sky, Beast reassembles itself piece by piece around her.

Her melee kit, meanwhile, channels Reinhardt. Beast comes equipped with a shield, and her main attack is an energy saber that not only slashes but can lunge forward to knock enemies back. Her mech-form ultimate is an area sweep that grants her bonus health while amplifying damage taken by enemies — similar in effect to Zenyatta's Discord Orb. That means the ultimate only reaches its full potential when teammates follow up with damage, a completely different philosophy from D.Va's self-destruct ult, which can wipe out the enemy team solo.

According to the official announcement, her weapons are the Plasma Saber and Fusion Repeater, with abilities including Power Barrier, Propulsors, and Surging Strike, and ultimates named Limit Break and Call Mech. Blizzard also noted that her design draws inspiration from Mobile Suit Gundam and FromSoftware's Armored Core series — which explains Beast's distinctly mechanical aesthetic.

D.Mon launches August 11 alongside Season 4: Heroes of Busan.
