A building completed in 1993, its exterior left as unfinished raw concrete while the interior is packed with high-gloss metal and warm wood — this is the space Andersson Bell chose for its first Japanese flagship, located in Aoyama at 5-49-2 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku. Rather than renovating the old structure into a featureless white box, the brand kept the rugged framework intact and layered color and lighting on top to create contrast. This reflects the "beauty of conflict" that Andersson Bell has long championed — classic versus contemporary, minimal versus maximal, coexisting without either side backing down within the same space.
The store, designed by architecture studio I IN, spans three floors: one basement level and two above ground. Rough, untreated walls sit deliberately alongside polished surfaces, one side leaning industrial, the other refined, with the design refusing to pick a lane. The brand also frames the space as more than just a retail outlet — it's positioned as a long-term hub for engaging with Tokyo's local creative community.
Two store-exclusive items launch alongside the opening. A unisex-fit T-shirt featuring a poster-style graphic retails for ¥19,800 JPY (about $126 USD), while a limited-edition heart-shaped leather keychain built with a tape measure inside — inscribed with the phrase "COINCIDENCE MORE LIKE DESTINY'S PRE-GAME" — is priced at ¥9,900 JPY (about $63 USD). Both pieces carry on the brand's habit of embedding narrative into small details, with neither the graphics nor the text treated as throwaway decoration.
Timed with the flagship opening, Andersson Bell also dropped its FW26 campaign, shot in Tokyo with model SUMIRE and photographer Kazunori Usui. Creative director Dohun Kim spoke to Tokyo's long-standing influence on the brand, framing the new Aoyama store as a fresh point of exchange between the label and the local creative scene.
Further details on the store's offerings and whether more exclusive pieces are on the way have yet to be announced.
