What bonsai masters understand and what watchmakers understand actually share a common thread: both obsess over the craftsmanship hidden beneath the surface. This time, Seiko has partnered with TRADMAN'S BONSAI, a team that blends traditional horticulture with contemporary design, and the result of their collaboration is a watch that transplants the tactile feel of black pine bark directly onto the dial.
The design concept behind this Seiko Presage Classic Series x TRADMAN'S BONSAI Limited Edition draws from the crescent-shaped "Tsuki no Bon" — a classic bonsai vessel symbolizing harmony and balance — depicting a black pine bathed in moonlight. The dial uses "Matsuba-Iro" (pine needle green), a deep green shade drawn from pine needles that has long represented longevity and resilience in Japanese tradition.
The real craftsmanship lies in the texture. A newly developed embossing technique replicates the rough, tactile surface of aged pine bark directly on the dial, sealed beneath a double-curved sapphire crystal, with curved hands sweeping across the full texture. The case comes in a gold-toned finish paired with a matching strap. A second included strap is stamped with a traditional three-pronged pine motif, driving home the pine-inspired theme even further.
Powering the watch is Seiko's in-house 6R51 automatic movement, with accuracy of +25/-15 seconds per day and roughly three days of power reserve. Limited to 2,000 pieces worldwide, the watch is priced at £1,250 (approximately $1,688 USD) and is now available for pre-order on the Seiko Boutique website, with deliveries expected to begin in September 2026.
