Pharrell Williams' auction platform JOOPITER has built its reputation on streetwear, art, and sneaker lots — but this time, they're getting serious about watches. The newly established Watches Department kicks off with "Keeping Measure: Watches & Timepieces," a selection spanning over half a century of watchmaking history, from heritage Maisons like Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, OMEGA, Piaget, and Cartier, all the way to independent watchmakers like Ressence, HYT, Speake-Marin, and Ōtsuka Lotēc.
The lineup itself reflects a distinct curatorial stance: rather than simply stacking blue-chip staples typical of major auction houses, it places industrial-era classics alongside niche, wildly experimental independent designs in the same sale.
The most story-rich piece in the lot is a 1969 OMEGA Alan Bean Speedmaster — belonging to the fourth human being to ever walk on the Moon. The sale also marks OMEGA's first-ever auction appearance of its complicated Speedmaster Chrono Chime, plus a rare tropical dial 2915-3. For those craving something beyond mechanical tradition, HYT's Moon Runner Red Magma from 2022 runs on liquid time display technology, making it arguably the least "watch-like" watch in the entire sale. Rounding things out is an Ulysse Nardin piece with an 18k woven bracelet crafted by the legendary workshop Gay Frères.
