For a game's 25th birthday, you might expect an art book or a concert. Instead, Square Enix teamed up with Japanese department store giant Daimaru Matsuzakaya to slap its characters on varsity jackets — the route chosen for celebrating Final Fantasy X this time around. It gives the collaboration more of a "mall run" feel than the usual collector's-shelf logic of gaming merch.
The lineup covers wardrobe staples like varsity jackets, graphic tees, hoodies and light jackets, with designs drawn from the likenesses of Tidus, Yuna, Auron, Kimahri and other characters. The accessories side includes collab bags, hats, backpacks and collectible keychains — built more for wearing out than for sitting on a shelf.
The real highlight, though, is the in-store setup: select Daimaru Matsuzakaya locations will feature pop-up spaces recreating Spira, the world of Final Fantasy X, turning the shopping trip itself into a walk through the game rather than just a rack of tie-in products.
The collection will be available for a limited time at select Daimaru Matsuzakaya stores and online, with prices ranging from ¥1,540 to ¥38,500 JPY (roughly $10 to $244 USD). Exact release dates and store locations have yet to be announced.
