The scene was a bit ironic: the setting was the LA premiere of Green Day's new film "Nimrods," yet the question that came up was about a completely different band's movie. Weezer guitarist Brian Bell was there for the event when a host from local radio station Alt 98.7 cornered him and casually asked if his own band had a movie in the works too.
Bell's answer was honest — almost comically so. "We already shot it. I probably shouldn't say that. But yeah, it's a wrap, it's gonna be great, and you'll see it in 2027." Right after saying he "shouldn't say" anything, he went ahead and revealed the release year.
The film still doesn't have a title. Word first broke last year when frontman Rivers Cuomo let it slip onstage at Coachella, telling the crowd, "We've been spending the last few weeks in LA shooting a Weezer movie." He also hinted at the time that Jack Black would be in it, though a band rep later denied that. Other reports have suggested Keanu Reeves will play the villain, with the film's tone described as somewhere between "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" and "Weird: The Al Yankovic Story" — part comic-book-style action comedy, part self-deprecating rock biopic parody.
Movie news aside, Weezer's been busy lately. The band just announced a 2026-2027 world tour hitting the UK, Europe, North America, and Japan, kicking off this fall in support of their 20th studio album, "The Gold Album," dropping August 21 via Reprise/Warner. Around the same time, the band was also announced as part of the lineup for the rhythm game "Stage Tour" — billed as a spiritual successor to "Guitar Hero" — set to launch this winter.
The film's title, official cast, and release details have yet to be announced.
