When the music video was filmed at David Armstrong Extreme Park in Louisville, Kentucky, nobody said the song could only live in that kind of venue. On Tuesday night, July 28, Knocked Loose and Denzel Curry brought 'Hive Mind' to Substance Skatepark in Brooklyn, marking the first time the pair have performed their collaborative track together live since its release.
The show was a free pop-up gig announced just a day earlier, with New York hardcore band Combust opening. Midway through Knocked Loose's set, Curry emerged from the side of the stage and stood next to frontman Bryan Garris to finish his verse, turning the skatepark into a chaotic mess of pushing, shoving, and crowd-surfing.
'Hive Mind' dropped this past February, layering Knocked Loose's metalcore foundation with Curry's rapid-fire trap flow — a pairing of two completely different camps forced together into something that works. Garris was blunt when talking about how the track came together: "We were wondering if it could even be done, and who would even want to do it. From the start, we agreed that if this song was going to work, it had to be Denzel Curry, because he gets it."
This marks Knocked Loose's first new song since their 2024 album 'You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To,' which included the Grammy-nominated Poppy collaboration 'Suffocate.' Garris previously told NME that the attention on the band has only pushed them further into extremes: "We've seen how well people respond to the chaotic elements we're bringing in right now, and that feedback fuels us. Those extreme experiments have proven to work, so we're going to keep pushing that direction."
The pair's upcoming 'Hive Mind' North American tour kicks off September 26 at MegaCorp Pavilion in Newport, Kentucky, running 24 dates before wrapping up in Mexico City on November 8. Curry also dropped a collaborative album, 'Strictly 4 The Scythe,' with Key Nyata and the Scythe crew back in March, which NME awarded three stars, calling it "chaotic, playful, and full of personality."
