An announcement is supposed to fill in the missing pieces, but this time it did the opposite — it took one away. Erykah Badu and The Alchemist (real name Alan Maman) have finally locked in an official release date of August 28 for their collaborative album, over a year in the making. It should've been the moment everything settled into place, but instead, the album title has disappeared.
Last year, Alchemist had revealed a book-like title for the album, "Abi & Alan," but the official announcement this time makes no mention of it at all. The page title on Bandcamp reads "Sorry, we don't have an album title yet…" — essentially an official admission that the date got locked in first, while the name is either still up in the air or they've decided not to use it after all.
The new track released alongside the announcement is "Witch Doctor." The album was co-produced by Badu and Alchemist across Dallas and Los Angeles over 18 months, and the previously released single "Next to You" may also make it onto the final tracklist. The release will be handled by Control Freaq / Young.
The two are set to kick off a North American tour next month, timed right after the album drops. The official album title, tracklist, and pricing have yet to be announced.
