The album title reads like a child asking a question out the window, yet its content grapples with climate crisis, AI, and the expansion of surveillance—it's this gap between innocent inquiry and heavy subject matter that makes Dummy's new album so intriguing. "Do You Love the Color of the Sky?" will be released via Polyvinyl on October 16, following up on 2024's "Free Energy."
The lead single "Full Spectrum Dominance" borrows its title directly from military surveillance terminology, yet its music video uses 3D animation to collage found imagery with motion graphics, creating visuals so psychedelic they verge on out-of-focus—as if the cold, hard language of a surveillance society had been tossed into a dream and scrambled back together.
The full album drifts between dream pop, breakbeat, and trip-hop, with tracks including "April Limousine," "Alluvial Fan," "Squeaky Wheel," "Touch the Perfect Speed," "Song of Mana," "Omen Globe," "N of 1," and one track abbreviated to the point of being a puzzle, "C.B.B.S.I.M.M.P.W.M." The closing track "Heaven's What You Make of It" feels like an ending left for listeners to fill in themselves.
Dummy will embark on a North American tour this fall, kicking off October 13 at Tower Lounge in Fresno and passing through San Francisco, Sacramento, Reno, Portland, Vancouver, Seattle, Boise, Salt Lake City, and Denver, with Golomb joining as support for most dates. The tour wraps up with a hometown show at Sid The Cat Ballroom in Los Angeles on November 4.
The vinyl is already available for pre-order on Rough Trade for $32.99. Release channels and pricing for Taiwan have yet to be announced.
