A Brooklyn rapper sitting on over three hundred beats handed down personally by a late Detroit production legend — for two full decades. This isn't legend, it's something Busta Rhymes said himself in a 2020 interview: "J Dilla left me over 300 beats before he passed." Now, that stockpile is finally getting its next chapter — the new album "Dillagence 2" is confirmed for release on August 25, 2026.
The album serves as a direct sequel to the 2007 collaborative mixtape "Dillagence," built entirely around J Dilla's unreleased instrumental work. J Dilla passed away in 2006, and the beats he left behind have sat as an untouched reserve in Busta's creative arsenal for years — this project is finally settling that account.
The footage accompanying the announcement on social media showed J Dilla's mother, Maureen "Ma Dukes" Yancey, seated and listening to preview tracks from the album. That image carries more weight than any press release could — this isn't a marketing move, it's a family affair, with the family present to see it through.
Prior to this, a small preview gathering in New York dropped hints about featured guests, including Lil Wayne. This isn't the first time Busta and J Dilla have crossed paths — the two previously connected on "Still Shining" and "Show Me What You Got." This time, that longstanding relationship is being turned into a full-length album.
"Dillagence 2" is confirmed to drop August 25th. Pricing and full tracklist details have yet to be announced.
