The 50 pairs came first, and this wide release followed. Born X Raised's collab with Vans on the Authentic 44 started as a closed-door community event at House of Vans Mexico City, where only 50 Friends and Family pairs were dropped — essentially letting the brand's most core fans see the rough draft before deciding whether to scale it into a full collection.
Behind the artwork is Born X Raised co-founder Alex "2Tone" Erdmann, a name familiar to anyone who follows the brand — his hand-drawn linework has always been Born X Raised's most personal signature. The retail version, unveiled at Paris Fashion Week, carries the Mexico City exclusive's raw sketch feel straight over onto white, black, and blue colorways, turning a one-off community piece into something you can actually buy — without cleaning up the artwork one bit.
The shoe is deliberately distressed: the canvas shows scuffs and wear marks, the midsole is dyed a yellowed tone, making it look like a pair that's already been worn for years rather than fresh off the line. It's covered in illustrative, pen-drawn artwork — brick wall patterns wrapping the toe and heel, spiders, cobwebs, and teardrop motifs scattered throughout, plus an "OFF THE WALL" callout finished with a splatter-paint effect, like someone spent all night going at the upper with a black marker.
The apparel drops alongside it, including a garment-washed black hoodie and pants set, graphic tees in black and blue, a mesh soccer jersey embroidered with Born X Raised's signature Old English lettering, and khaki pants — blending streetwear and jersey culture into one collection.
The Born X Raised x Vans Authentic 44 collection will launch in SS27 through Born X Raised, Vans, and select retailers, with exact release date and pricing yet to be announced.
