A slasher film about serial murders at a forest summer camp, yet its lead single features the voice of The Blue Nile's Paul Buchanan — the pairing alone is the biggest hook. Alex G's new track "Pain Is The Heart Of Love," with lyrics penned by director Jane Schoenbrun herself, is the first single from the soundtrack to her new film "Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma," starring Gillian Anderson and Hannah Einbinder.
This marks the third collaboration between Schoenbrun and Alex G, following 2022's "We're All Going To The World's Fair" and 2024's "I Saw The TV Glow." The score itself was actually revealed back in February, though the official announcement is only coming out now.
Rather than a straightforward slasher soundtrack, this album plays more like a carefully curated nostalgia mixtape: R.E.M.'s "Supernatural Superserious," Counting Crows' "A Long December," and Donna Lewis's "I Love You Always Forever" are all included, woven between the multiple camp-themed cues Alex G composed for the film, alongside existing tracks from Sally Shapiro, Okay Kaya, and Andy Shauf. Blood and sentimentality, slaughter scenes set to millennium-era love songs — that dissonance might just be the most interesting thing about the whole soundtrack.
The soundtrack, featuring the song versions, is set for release via Waxwork on August 21, while the full score won't drop until September 11 — the two are being released separately.
